The second edition of “Elements of Thai Architecture” presents a rare and valuable collection of photographs of Thai architecture taken by Anuvit Charernsupkul approximately 40–50 years ago. This photographic archive, consisting of over 150 images, holds immense historical value. It captures significant architectural details such as the pediment of the directional prang at Wat Mahathat in Sukhothai, the gabled prang hall at Wat Mahathat in Lopburi, the stupa wall of Wat Cham Thewi (Wat Ku Kut) in Lamphun, the façade of the vihara at Wat Lai in Lopburi, the Naga stairway of Wat Phra That Chae Haeng in Nan, the exterior grounds of Wat Kasatraram in Ayutthaya, and the interior of Wat Yai Suwannaram in Phetchaburi, among many others. These images offer an unparalleled glimpse into the exquisite craftsmanship and architectural environments of various historical periods—preserved in their authentic condition before being altered or destroyed by both human intervention and natural decay.

Another noteworthy aspect of this photographic collection is the dedication and artistry involved in capturing these images using natural light and carefully composed angles. Each photograph was taken with film cameras mounted on tripods, requiring patience and precision to capture the beauty and intricacy of Thai architectural elements faithfully.

The photographs were developed by the renowned Jong Munkong Studio, one of Thailand’s premier film processing studios, known for its deep expertise in black-and-white film. The original negatives, rich in tonal quality, were re-scanned in high resolution for this edition. Each image was printed using a dual-tone process to achieve maximum detail and tonal gradation from light to dark. The book is printed on 120 gsm Brisk Vogue Pure White FSC-certified paper, in a 10 x 10-inch format, comprising 216 pages, casebound with meticulous craftsmanship.

This edition aims not only to deepen appreciation and understanding of Thai art and culture among local readers but also to share its profound beauty with international audiences.
